Introduction: From Profit to Purpose
One of the hardest decisions I have ever made was walking away from a profitable e-commerce side hustle to build a purpose-led business that made £0 at the time.
Yes! I gave up steady income, daily orders, and a “working” business model to pursue something that felt more aligned.
How the Side Hustle Started
For five years, while working full-time as a doctor, I ran a successful online store.
The business filled a market gap: sensible, affordable nursery furniture. Not luxury. Not bargain-basement. Just practical.
I launched it with:

Zero capital

A simple Shopify site

And my (charming) Nigerian accent 😅
I’ll never forget the first day: 21 calls to suppliers before one said yes.
Then I used that name to pitch others:
“I’m already doing business with your competitor. You don’t want to miss this market.”
It worked.
Orders rolled in. Revenue followed.
But I felt nothing. No joy. No excitement.
Not because it was hard, but because I didn’t care about the mission.
It wasn’t a purpose-led business. It was just cold, transactional cash.
The Pivot: Building a Purpose-Led Business from Scratch
I have been immersed in personal finance for 20+ years, investing, navigating tax, simplifying big money decisions even back in med school.
It’s what friends, colleagues, and even consultants always came to me for.
So two years ago, I began sharing online, not as a business, but as a blog.
And that lit the spark for Moneywise Doctor.
Today, that blog has become a full-scale purpose-led business helping medics achieve real financial wellbeing.
