I hate New Year’s resolutions. They rarely work.

Instead, I focus on building systems that actually move the needle, which is exactly what the Moneywise Doctor book is designed to do. This book has helped hundreds of medics gain clarity, reduce financial stress, and make better decisions about their money, all without sacrificing family time or sanity.

Flashback to this time last year: no vision boards, no fancy planners, just a large wall calendar and one simple question: “What actually matters next year?” At the time, Moneywise Doctor was mostly just me. No core teambest-selling book or million-dollar brand. My one big focus? Create a roadmap to help medics feel truly in control of their financial future. Not to grow faster, not to do more, but to build one meaningful system and let everything else align around it.

Fast forward to today, the Moneywise Doctor Book is a best seller, in the hands of close to a thousand medics. The intellectual property built into Moneywise Doctor has generated six-figure revenue while fitting seamlessly into my lifestyle and family time. What started as a solo operation has grown into a lean, efficient team, helping thousands of medics gain clarity, reduce anxiety, and make smarter financial decisions.

Why Resolutions Fail and Systems Work

New Year’s resolutions are vague. Most fail by mid-February. Why? They lack structure, a plan, and real-world flexibility. That’s where the Big A## Calendar Method comes in – system that forces clarity and action.

Step 1 – Pick Your Misogi

A Misogi is a single, year-defining challenge – big, hard, but achievable. Examples include:

  • Running a marathon

  • Building a tool to serve your community

  • Making a career move

The Misogi becomes your north star for the year, giving clarity to your priorities.

Step 2 – Schedule Mini Adventures

Every two months, I block out a day for something different:

  • A day trip with family

  • A live event

  • A special spa retreat

  • Trying something completely new

Joy doesn’t happen by accident. It gets scheduled. Pain schedules itself. This method mirrors the philosophy in the Moneywise Doctor Book: Financial Guide: structure first, rewards naturally follow.

Step 3 – Add Winning Habits

Each quarter, focus on one habit that moves the needle:

  • Q1: Build a morning routine

  • Q2: Write helpful content daily

  • Q3: Exercise 30 minutes daily

  • Q4: Unplug for 2 hours every evening

Nothing heroic, just consistent. These small wins compound, much like financial habits such as automated saving, regular investing, or tracking expenses, which prevent mistakes like falling into the 60% tax trap (Marginal Tax Rate for Doctors).

Building Financial Confidence

The book doesn’t just help with planning; it helps medics regain confidence. Financial anxiety is common, especially when juggling high workloads and complex tax structures. I recently shared the story of a doctor who transformed her finances and regained confidence, detailed in Financial Anxiety: Doctor Transforms Her Money and Confidence.

Confidence comes from systems that work quietly in the background: automated saving, investing, and protection. When medics can trust their finances, they can focus more on medicine and less on worry.

Avoiding Common Pitfalls

High-income medics often fall into a trap: earning more but taking home less. This is covered in Marginal Tax Rate for Doctors. Without a plan for tax-efficient investing or income allocation, extra work doesn’t lead to extra financial freedom.

The Moneywise Doctor Book guides medics on how to:

  • Maximise take-home pay

  • Reduce unnecessary tax exposure

  • Build buffers and protections to safeguard income

For those aiming for long-term independence, understanding these principles is essential (Financial Freedom for Medics).

Planning With Purpose in 2026

Instead of resolutions, I focus on:

  1. Reflect – What worked last year? What didn’t? Write it down.

  2. Prioritise – Faith, family, fitness, finances, fun.

  3. Plan with purpose – Set clear goals, milestones, and leave room for opportunity.

Small, clear actions build momentum. The principle mirrors how medics should approach their finances: clarity, structure, and consistency over chaos.

Your Turn: One Clear Goal

Skipping vague resolutions means picking one clear, meaningful goal. Ask yourself:

What’s your one big goal for 2026?

Whether it’s reducing financial anxiety, building a tax-efficient plan, or creating a buffer for unexpected events, start small and build a system. Over time, these micro-actions create macro results.

The Moneywise Doctor Book offers a roadmap for medics to implement these systems, giving you clarity, confidence, and control. You can explore more about it in Moneywise Doctor Book: Strategic Financial Gifts.
